I mentioned to my travel agent friend the other day that I was interested in the Greek Islands and they gave me a few tips on where to go Crete - the largest and most southern of the islands - as there are apparently some good cheap holidays to Crete on offer at the moment. In terms of where to stay, Hersonissos is a good choice for families apparently, with safe waters, plenty of amenities and the Star Beach water park and beach resort. Chania in the south is recommended as a quieter area, or for culture there is Heraklion, which is home to the Knossos ruins. Finally, Malia is good for going out with plenty of bars and clubs.
