Years ago when my grandpa died, I had a special experience with my exmormon relatives. My dad couldn’t be there and I was asked to be there in his place. I was worried about intruding on such a moment, but my uncle said, “If you want to be there, we want you to be there.” Sadly, they were all too familiar with burying a loved one. But for me, this was the first time preparing a loved one’s body for burial. As we dressed him, my aunt started singing one of his favorite hymns. It was one of the most spiritual LDS experiences I have had, yet it was with my exmormon loved ones.
