A certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA) is one who performs occupational therapies under the general supervision of a senior occupational therapist. Assisting, administering, and instructing patients in learning functional skills is the main duty of a certified occupational therapy assistant. In order to become a certified occupational therapy assistant, one needs to have a four-year college degree. A COTA with NBCOT certification will be considered ideal for any COTA job. A current state license is also one of the basic requirements for a certified occupational therapy assistant job. Aspirants should also be aware that a COTA may also be required to do some traveling.
